Russian drone attacks kill one in Odesa, wound dozens across Ukraine, including children
On the evening of July 6, Russian forces launched strike drones against Ukraine. In Odesa, one person was killed during the night attack. The drone strikes resumed on the morning of July 7, when Russia attacked Kharkiv. Explosions have injured 29 people, including children. After repeated explosions, 11 more people have been injured. Strikes also hit Zaporizhzhia, where 11 people have been reported injured
Kharkiv
The Ukrainian Air Force reported that Kharkiv came under drone attack in the early morning hours. In the Shevchenkivskyi district, multiple strikes were recorded. According to Oleh Syniehubov, head of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration, a fire broke out on the 9th floor of a residential building as a result of one of the strikes.
At 5:37 a.m., Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported incoming drones toward the Piatykhatky area, followed by a series of explosions. By 6:05 a.m., Syniehubov confirmed four people had been injured, including two children. A separate fire broke out on the 8th floor of another building, covering about 10 square meters.
Enemy UAV strikes were also reported in the Slobidskyi district. As of 6:14 a.m., two additional people were reported injured there. Civilian infrastructure, including a kindergarten, was damaged.
The number of victims continued to rise throughout the morning:
- 6:21 a.m.: 6 injured in Shevchenkivskyi, total of 8;
- 6:32 a.m.: 10 injured (8 in Shevchenkivskyi, 2 in Slobidskyi);
- 6:46 a.m.: 13 injured (10 in Shevchenkivskyi, 3 in Slobidskyi, including a 3-year-old girl);
- 7:03 a.m.: 16 injured (11 in Shevchenkivskyi, 5 in Slobidskyi);
- 7:14 a.m.: 19 injured;
- 7:21 a.m.: 20 injured, including three children;
- 7:30 a.m.: City Council member Artem Revchuk reported 23 injured;
- 7:54 a.m.: Mayor Terekhov confirmed 27 people were wounded in total.
According to the State Emergency Service, fires broke out in a 9-story residential building in Shevchenkivskyi (burning area: 70 m²), and in the Slobidska district, a kindergarten and commercial facility were hit. A farm building and a car also caught fire (burning area: 10 m²). All fires were localized and extinguished.
Russia launches second drone attack on Kharkiv on July 7
Following an earlier drone assault that left at least 27 injured, the Russian occupying forces launched a second wave of attacks on Kharkiv later in the morning, targeting residential areas.
Timeline of the second attack:
- 10:22 a.m. — Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov announces a new wave of enemy drone activity.
- 10:23–10:30 — A series of at least five explosions is heard as multiple Shahed drones hit the city. Initial strikes reported in the Kholodnohirskyi district.
- 10:26 a.m. — Fourth explosion heard; drones still flying over the city.
- 10:30 a.m. — Fifth explosion; preliminary reports indicate strikes in residential areas.
- 10:36 a.m. — Two more people seek medical help in the Shevchenkivskyi district, bringing the total injured from both attacks to 29.
- 10:39 a.m. — Terekhov reports casualties in the Kholodnohirskyi district, including a seriously wounded woman.
- 10:47 a.m. — Six confirmed hits in Kholodnohirskyi district. Civilian homes are damaged and on fire.
- 11:03 a.m. — Oleh Synehubov, head of Kharkiv Regional Administration, reports that the number of wounded has risen to 7 in the second attack. One person was found under the rubble of a building.
Current known casualties (both waves combined):
- Total injured: at least 29 (as of 10:36 a.m.)
- Additional 7 injured in second attack (as of 11:03 a.m.)
- Fires and extensive damage reported in private homes, kindergartens, and commercial facilities.
As of 1:31 p.m., 33 people were injured in the attack.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Russian strikes hit the Kholodnohirsk district in Kharkiv. Residential, administrative, and warehouse buildings, as well as commercial facilities and cars, came under fire. Several fires broke out, damaging homes and vehicles. Emergency services are now working to eliminate the consequences of the attack.
Zaporizhzhia
At 09:57 a.m., the head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Administration, Ivan Fedorov, reported that air defense was active over the city.
At 10:02 a.m., explosions were heard in Zaporizhzhia, followed by more blasts at 10:18 a.m.
“The enemy is attacking Zaporizhzhia with drones. There is preliminary damage and injuries,” Fedorov wrote at 10:22 a.m.
He later confirmed that at least 10 people were injured.
Russian forces carried out six strikes in total, damaging residential buildings, a university, and local businesses. A direct hit was recorded at the university building.
Later, Fedorov clarified that dormitories, apartment and private homes, and non-residential buildings were also damaged. Utility crews are now assessing the destruction.
As of 12:00 p.m., the number of injured rose to 11. Eight people were hospitalized, and three others received treatment at the scene. Doctors say the condition of the hospitalized is moderate.
Kyiv
In the early hours of July 7, Kyiv came under attack by Russian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). At 1:47 a.m., Timur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, reported the activation of air defense systems in response to incoming drones.
In the Desnianskyi district, part of a downed UAV was discovered without fire damage. By 2:04 a.m., officials confirmed that debris had damaged windows in a non-residential building. Later in the morning, Mayor Vitali Klitschko added that the facade of an administrative building, a gas pipe, and an empty tank were also damaged. The burning debris was quickly extinguished, and no casualties were reported.
In the Solomyanskyi district, debris fell on a car wash, damaging vehicles and a water pipe. Tkachenko noted there was no fire and no injuries. Klitschko later confirmed that a large-diameter heating main was also damaged; utility crews were dispatched to carry out urgent repairs.
In the Holosiivskyi district, falling debris shattered windows in an office building. Again, no casualties were reported.
City authorities continue to assess damage and carry out emergency repairs.
Odesa
At 12:51 a.m., Odesa Regional Military Administration head Oleh Kiper urged residents to seek shelter as Russian forces launched a wave of strike drones targeting the region.
According to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, the attack resulted in:
- One civilian fatality
- Damage to ten garages, an administrative building at a service station, and several construction trailers
- Destruction of multiple vehicles, including cars, trucks, and a bus
- Fires, which were promptly extinguished by emergency crews
Dnipropetrovsk region
In the village of Prosiane, located in the Synelnyky district of Dnipropetrovsk region, Russian drones struck a residential area, igniting a large fire.

Key damage included:
- A 1,500-square-meter blaze that engulfed residential buildings
- Three people injured
- The fire was extinguished by 20 rescuers using five firefighting units
