Russia attacks civilian infrastructure in Poltava region, injuring at least 16 people

Philip Pronin, the head of the Poltava Regional Military Administration, reports.

"According to preliminary information, Russia hit civilian infrastructure in the Poltava district," he said.

According to the head of the Poltava Regional Military Administration, there are victims of the Russian shelling. There may also be people under the rubble of the building.

The explosion in Poltava was reported by Suspilne journalists around 2:08 p.m. The Air Force Command warned of a high-speed target in the direction of the Poltava region.

At 3:19 p.m. Pronin informed that there were 9 victims.

"Russia struck at the civilian infrastructure of the Poltava district, people were injured, as of now we know about 9 people who were wounded, preliminary no fatalities. Several high-rise buildings were damaged. The information is being clarified," he said.

Later, the head of the Poltava Regional Military Administration reported that the Russian strike had damaged power lines in the Poltava district. 53,000 households and 2,400 legal entities are without power.

As of 4:38 p.m., the number of injured increased to 12 people, Pronin said. Among the injured are two children. Three of the wounded were hospitalised.

At 7:28 p.m., the Prosecutor General's Office reported that the number of victims had increased to 16.

"According to the investigation, on June 17, the Russian Armed Forces launched a missile attack on the city of Poltava. The enemy had previously hit civilian infrastructure with the Kh-59 cruise missile. As a result of the strike, civilians were injured - 16 people are currently known to have been injured, including 2 children. Six people were hospitalised," the statement says.

They also noted that the strike damaged several multi-storey buildings, a kindergarten, power lines and garages.

  • Also in the morning, Russian forces struck the Kherson region and hit a civilian car with a drone, killing a local resident.
