Russia brings 4,000 books from Tver to Berdiansk in another attempt to impose ideology
Invading Russian forces have brought 4,000 books by Russian authors and publishers to the temporarily occupied Berdiansk in southern Ukraine
Victoria Halitsyna, the head of the Berdiansk City Military Administration, reports.
"The invading Russian forces don't stop carrying out forceful Russification in the temporarily occupied territories of Zaporizhzhia region. One of the ways to carry out a propaganda campaign is to bring in ideologically 'correct' literature to distribute among local residents," she said.
According to Halitsyna, the Russians brought 4,000 books to Berdiansk, including fiction, science, and religious literature from Russia's Tver.
"Such a book 'humanitarian convoy' can be safely regarded as another attempt to impose a hostile ideology on the residents of Berdiansk and rewrite historical facts to suit the Kremlin's propaganda. For the invaders, it is important not just to bring Russian books, but to destroy any references to Ukrainian culture and national identity," emphasizes the head of the Berdiansk City Military Administration.
At the same time, she adds that since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion and occupation of Zaporizhzhia region, the Russia-backed authorities have been removing Ukrainian books from libraries and educational institutions.
"In this way, the invaders seek not only to impose their propaganda, but also to physically destroy any sources of Ukrainian-language information," she emphasizes.
- In the temporarily occupied Ukrainian territories, the invading Russian forces are creating so-called anti-terrorist centers to intimidate residents who communicate with relatives from the free territories or the EU.
