About Russians: while some kill, others write novels and dance ballet
The “Russian world” did not split like an “ice floe”. It has been and still is one monolithic prison of nations. Each one has its own function
Akunin writes that the “Russian world” split like an ice floe. The “good Russians” are jumping from one ice floe to another, trying to see which ice floe is better for them. Beautifully written, textured. No wonder Mr. Chkhartashvili (Boris Akunin’s real name - ed.) became successful in Russia.
One thing is for sure: the “Russian world” did not break on any ice floes. It has been and is one monolithic prison of nations. It's just that everyone has their own function.
While the God-chosen people are killing and raping their neighbors, a few liberal bunnies have jumped to another ice floe and are launching white balloons, shining flashlights, and doing their best to imitate that they are not like their people, but different. And that they shouldn't be lumped together. “Alexei, we are with you!”
The truth is that horrible cannibals, sadists, murderers and artists, poets, writers are really just two sides of the same coin with a double-headed eagle and rhinestones.
The only difference between them is that while the former are killing, the latter are writing novels and dancing ballet, trying their best to convince the whole world that Russia is not so hopeless. Because you see, here we have Pushkin, Tolstoy, Dostoevsky!
In fact, this is a long-standing, time-tested way for Russians to mimic normal people - to cover up the atrocities of their people with the talents of individual representatives.
I saw a lot of Ukrainians liking Akunin's post. I understand why Russians like it - they are shifting responsibility from themselves to the people and the “lousy regime”. But it's hard for me to comprehend what good the Ukrainians found there.
