314 Ukrainian children forcibly adopted by Russian families - Yale University
Yale Humanitarian Research Lab has identified 314 children from Ukraine who have been placed in Russia’s systematic program of coerced adoption and fostering
This is stated in the report by Yale University's Humanitarian Research Lab titled “Russia’s Systematic Program of Coerced Adoption and Fostering of Ukraine’s Children.”
The Humanitarian Research Lab identified 314 Ukrainian children who have been placed in Russia’s systematic program of coerced adoption and fostering following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
Of these, 148 children were listed in Russia’s child placement databases, including 42 who have already been placed for adoption or guardianship, or who have had a citizen of Russia appointed as their guardian. 166 children have been placed with citizens of Russia.
The children were taken to at least 21 different regions of Russia. The report also notes that the number of children could be higher, as not all adoption profiles were accessible or fully reviewed.
- On December 3, it was reported that three children from the occupied left-bank Kherson region had been brought back to Ukrainian-controlled territory.
