Russian troops turn Melitopol and suburbs into military base
New Russian convoys arrive in Melitopol: the city is fortified, the military lives in civilian quarters and locates military equipment in residential areas.
Ivan Fedorov, the mayor of Melitopol, tells on Telegram what has been happening in the regional center and in the district since November 7.
The mayor reports that Russian troops are arriving in the city from several directions: from Kherson and the occupied Tokmak of the Zaporizhzhia region. The Russian military banned the citizens of Melitopol from approaching the airfield.
Russian troops have begun to fortify Melitopol with defensive structures, and locate in captured houses, schools, and kindergartens. They place military equipment in residential areas.
"Busloads of people from “DPR” have arrived to the 22nd school of Melitopol today. They set up "barricades" in the yard of the school, Fedorov informs and adds "In the village of Sheliugy near Kyrylivka, (Russian troops, editor's note) arrived on tanks, located in a kindergarten and blocked access to forestry."
According to Ivan Fedorov, the situation in the district is as follows:
Plodorodne is captured by Kadyrov mercenaries; they put up flags with their leader’s image;
In Mykhailivka and Zarichne, Russian troops conduct searches, going through houses, and questioning residents regarding local men;
In Pryazovske, Novovasylivska, and Oleksandrivka communities, the Russian military "breaks into and settles in empty houses";
In Kyrylivka, Russian soldiers "deployed in captured recreation centers."
"The good news is that our Armed Forces know well where the enemy is located and what to do to make them flee from Ukrainian land," Fedorov emphasizes.
