Russian troops halt fighting for one day amid Ukrainian army resistance in Kupyansk
According to the military, there were no armed clashes between the Ukrainian military and Russian troops in the Kupyansk direction over the past day. However, they emphasized that the overall combat situation in that area remains tense
Illya Yevlash, the head of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Eastern Group press service, told Radio Liberty.
"No combat clashes took place on the last day (in the Kupyansk direction - ed.). This sometimes happens, the Russian forces are now starting to use their own tactics, possibly as a response to their significant setbacks near Novoyehorivka and other locations earlier. However, this does not mean that there is no fighting there at all," said the soldier.
Yevlash spoke about the progress of the Ukrainian army in the Bakhmut direction, especially south of the city. According to him, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have advanced in the village of Klishchiivka, where fighting with the Russian troops is ongoing.
"Indeed, we have made progress in Klishchiivka. However, it is too early to say that we have fully completed the operation there, as the fighting continues. In addition, we are making progress towards Andriivka, Bakhmut and Kurdyumivka, where we are experiencing success. Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Once we have confirmed results, we will provide an update of our situation," emphasized Yevlash.
The press service of the Eastern Military Group reported that north of Bakhmut, near the village of Orikhovo-Vasylivka, the Russian army has a significant contingent - about 50,000 soldiers, over 2,000 tanks, about 1,000 armored personnel carriers, about 150 guns and more than 120 rocket launchers.
"There are also quite powerful forces there. The constant attacks of the enemy now - near Orikhovo-Vasylivka on the northern flank of Bakhmut - indicate that the enemy is still trying to find weaknesses in our defense. However, to no avail," the spokesman added.
