Russian troops do not allow 5th or 6th block of Zaporizhzhia NPP to be started, regularly shelling it
Russian army continues to shell Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. Currently, our power engineers have restored electricity supply from Ukrainian system.
Oleksandr Starukh, head of Zaporizhzhia Regional Military administration, reports live on air of united TV marathon.
"Russian forces do not give opportunity to start 5 or 6 block as Energoatom wants, so that energy flows into our networks. For this purpose, energy infrastructure is regularly shelled. The day before yesterday, the line was cut, generators at the nuclear plant were turned on again, which provided 130 MW, necessary for cooling the active zone of reactors, which, although not working at full capacity, still provide energy for cooling," Starukh said.
Since the beginning of March, the station has been occupied, workers have to work under the control of Russian troops, but Ukrainian energy workers managed to fix the power supply and network: "Yesterday, NPP was turned on again from our electricity system, it has become a little safer."
"This situation is repeated regularly, and without transfer of NPPs to the control of IAEA or even Energoatom, we are constantly faced with this story," head of Regional Military Administration said.
Starukh also said that Russian troops shelled suburbs of Zaporizhzhia this night and in the morning.
"Parts of missiles landed near regional hospital at night, where mentally ill people and doctors are located - 270 people, 60 doctors. Fortunately, no one was injured, issue of evacuation is being discussed," Starukh added.
