Russian troops continue offensive in 3 directions, AFU repel attacks near 12 settlements

The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces shared the information in the morning update on Facebook.

On January 28, Russian troops have launched 10 missile strikes, 26 airstrikes and 81 MLRS attacks 

"Over the past day, Russian occupiers launched 10 missile strikes, including one on the civilian infrastructure of Zaporizhzhia, 26 airstrikes and 81 MLRS attacks, in particular, at civilian objects in Ochakiv, Mykolaiv region. There are injured and dead among the civilian population," the General Staff emphasized.

The General Staff noted that Russian troops continue to launch offensive actions in Bakhmut, Avdiivka and Vuhledar directions. In Kupiansk, Lyman, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson directions, they are on the defensive.

At the same time, the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled Russian attacks near 12 towns and villages in Luhansk and Donetsk regions, and destroyed a Russian Su-25 aircraft, an Mi-8 helicopter and 2 Supercam UAVs.

In particular, Ukrainian aviation launched 8 strikes on Russian personnel concentrations, weapons and equipment, and air defense missile systems.

"In addition, our soldiers destroyed a Su-25 aircraft, a Mi-8 helicopter and 2 Superkam UAVs. Over the last day, missile and artillery units of the Ukrainian Defense Forces hit 2 control points, 2 enemy air defense positions and 5 manpower concentrations," the General Staff added.

Situation by directions

Ukrainian experts did not detect enemy offensive groups on the border with Belarus.

On the northeastern Ukrainian border, Russian troops fired mortars near a settlement in the Chernihiv region and 2 more in the Sumy region.

Russian troops repeatedly shell towns and villages along the contact line of the border areas. More than 30 settlements in the Kharkiv region came under fire.

Kupiansk and Lyman directions: Russian forces shelled more than 25 settlements in Kharkiv and Luhansk regions. 

In the Bakhmut direction, the Russian military shelled more than 40 settlements in the Donetsk region.

In the Avdiivka direction, 8 settlements came under Russian fire.

In the Vuhledar direction, Vuhledar and 2 more settlements were repeatedly attacked.

In the Zaporizhzhia direction, 4 settlements in the Donetsk region and 11 more in the Zaporizhzhia region were hit by shelling. In total, more than 30 towns and villages were affected by Russian fire.

In the Kherson direction, 9 settlements and Kherson city came under MLRS,cannon artillery and mortar fire.
