Russian troops are trapping Ukrainian soldiers, strike with aircraft and artillery
The Svoboda Legion soldier Kostyantyn Denysov fighting in the Zaporizhzhia sector says that sappers suffer the most, as they are often the first to enter recaptured positions
He shared the information on Espreso TV.
"The situation is as follows: our guys went into battle, and the firefights were very heavy, they knocked out the enemy. Before entering the territory, you first need to conduct reconnaissance, then clear and gain a foothold, all this is happening under constant fire from Russian artillery and enemy drones circling over our heads. The Russians are not fools, they might withdraw, luring our troops in, only to encircle and strike with artillery and air support. In particular, today, on August 14, in the morning,a scenario played out where the enemy infantry initially retreated, but Russian aircraft then swooped in, subjecting those positions to heavy bombardment," said the fighter.
Kostyantyn Denysov emphasized the importance of meticulous and skillful execution of such operations, given Russian troops’ craftiness and deceitful tactics. Instances of this have been observed numerous times in the Zaporizhzhia direction, where Russian forces appeared to withdraw, only to ambush Ukrainian fighters as they entered, subjecting them to sudden crossfire from all angles.
"The enemy's first line consists of motorized rifles, recently mobilized and local rabble in the form of Sudoplatov's battalion (a so-called volunteer group created by Russia in the Zaporizhzhia region - ed.). And the second line is the GRU and airborne troops, marines and other special forces. Ukrainian defenders need to be very careful and balanced in their approach, so they are slowly doing their job, pushing the enemy out," Denysov said.
The soldier underscored that sappers are currently facing the brunt of the attacks, often being the initial force to enter Russian positions. This dual role places sappers as both assault troops and scouts, in addition to being a fire support company, resulting in an immensely demanding workload for them.
