Mykhailo Volynets, head of the Confederation of Free Trade Unions of Ukraine, reported the information.
“As a result of Russian shelling, the mines in the Dobropillia community lost power, leaving 148 miners trapped underground,” he wrote.
Later reports clarified that Russia had attacked a mine owned by the energy company DTEK, killing one miner and injuring three others.
“The attack damaged company facilities and equipment, causing a power outage. At the time, 146 miners were underground, and they are now being brought to the surface,” DTEK reported.
In early January of this year, the only mine in Pokrovsk, which supplied coking coal to metallurgical plants in Ukraine, ceased operations.
