Russian nuclear rhetoric is dangerous and irresponsible – NATO

NATO spokeswoman Oana Lungescu called Russian nuclear rhetoric dangerous and irresponsible, stating that comparison with the distribution of NATO nuclear forces is false

Ukrinform writes about this, referring to Lungescu's statement.

This is how she commented on Putin's statement about placing Russian nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus.

"Russian nuclear rhetoric is dangerous and irresponsible. NATO is vigilant, and we are closely monitoring the situation. We have not seen any changes in Russia's nuclear posture that would lead us to adjust our own," she said.

Lungescu also said that Putin's reference to the distribution of NATO nuclear forces to justify his decision was "totally misleading." The spokeswoman emphasized that NATO, unlike the Russian Federation, fulfills its obligations.

"NATO allies act with full respect of their international commitments. Russia has consistently broken its arms control commitments, most recently suspending its participation in the New START Treaty. Russia must return to compliance and act in the spirit of goodwill," Oana Lungescu emphasized.
