Rubble clearing after Russia’s strike in Pokrovsk completed: 7 killed, 81 wounded

On the evening of August 7, Russia attacked the city of Pokrovsk in Donetsk region. Two missiles hit a residential building, there are dead and wounded. Missiles hit a residential building, killing 7 people and injuring 67 people.

As of 11 a.m. on August 8, seven people died as a result of the shelling of Pokrovsk, including five civilians, a rescuer and a soldier. The number of injured increased to 81 - 39 civilians, including two children born in 2006 and 2012, 31 policemen, 7 rescuers and 4 military.

According to the head of the military administration, 12 multi-storey buildings, a hotel, a prosecutor's office, a pension fund, a pharmacy, two shops, two cafes and two civilian cars were damaged.

Earlier, the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that the rubble had been cleared.

"Pokrovsk. On August 8, five fires were extinguished on a total area of 75 square meters in a residential building and a hotel," the statement reads.

According to preliminary information, there are no people under the rubble. Emergency rescue operations are currently underway in the 5-story residential building.

According to him, as of Tuesday morning, August 8, 7 people were killed. The number of injured increased to 67 - including 29 police officers, 7 rescuers and 2 children.

The Office of the Prosecutor General provided more detailed information about the dead and injured. Thus, 7 citizens aged 22 to 71 died as a result of the rocket attack on the town of Pokrovsk. Among the dead are five men and two women.

11-year-old and 17-year-old children are also among the 67 people who sustained injuries of varying severity. Police officers and rescue workers who were the first to arrive at the scene to provide emergency assistance to the victims and eliminate the consequences of the destruction were also injured.

Earlier, in a commentary to Suspilne, the head of the Pokrovsk military administration, Serhiy Dobryak, said that as of 12:30 a.m. on August 7, the number of wounded and injured had increased to 57.

"The death toll remains unchanged. Seven people were killed. The rubble is being cleared," he said.

Prior to that, at 11 p.m., the rubble clearing was suspended. At that time, seven people were reported dead and 27 injured. The wounded were taken to a local hospital, and two of them were sent to Dnipro in serious condition.

Previously, the head of the Donetsk Regional Military Administration Pavlo Kyrylenko provided updated data on the dead and injured.

According to him, as of 10 p.m. on August 7, 5 civilians were reported dead and 14 wounded (an 11-year-old child was among the wounded).

"In addition, we know about two killed employees of the State Emergency Service and one military. Nine policemen, a local administration employee and a serviceman were wounded," Kyrylenko added.

In his evening address, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy mentioned the attack on Pokrovsk. He noted that the enemy had hit the city with Iskander missiles and also released the name of one of the dead - Colonel Andriy Omelchenko, deputy head of the State Emergency Service in Donetsk region.

As of 8-50 p.m., the data was reported by Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko. 

"The number of injured has increased to 31. There are 19 police officers, 5 rescuers and 1 child among them. Five people died. The rubble is being cleared," he wrote.

Earlier, Ihor Klymenko reported that 5 people had died.

"5 killed and 18 wounded as a result of two strikes on residential buildings in Pokrovsk. As of 9:20 p.m., 4 civilians were killed and 3 wounded in the first attack. The deputy head of the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service in Donetsk region was killed during the second attack. Another 4 rescuers, 8 police officers and 3 civilians were injured. Our heroes were the first to arrive at the scene of the attack to help people," he wrote.

As of 8:50 p.m., at least one person was reported dead and 7 wounded. This was reported by Pavlo Kyrylenko, head of the Donetsk Regional Military Administration.

According to his data, one person was killed and 7 were wounded, but the number of victims may increase. The threat of repeated strikes remains in the city.

Earlier the information on the missile strikes was announced by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy. He published a video and said on Twitter:

“The city of Pokrovsk, Donetsk region. Donbas, from which Russia is trying to leave only broken and scorched stones. Two missile strikes. An ordinary residential building was hit. Unfortunately, there are victims. Rescuers and all necessary services are on the scene. The rescue of people continues,” the president wrote.

“We have to stop the Russian terror. Russia will be held accountable for everything it has done in this terrible war,” he added.
