NTV publication was one of the first to report the incident
The publication states a Russian missile hit a Turkish-flagged ship in the Ukrainian port of Kherson on January 24. After the hit, a fire broke out in the wheelhouse. However, since there was no crew on board at the time of the attack, no one was injured in the incident.
Türk Deniz Medya also wrote about the hit on the Turkish ship on January 24.
"Yesterday at 21:00 in the port of Kherson in Ukraine, the Turkish ship Tuzla was hit. The Vanuatu-flagged ship called Tuzla is operated by Çayeli Shipping. A fire broke out on the captain's bridge by the attack," the report said. The media outlet also adds that the Ferahnaz ship was damaged by shelling earlier in the morning.
The publication quoted Hakan Çendik, deputy chairman of the Association of Owners and Operators of Short Sea Drifters (KOSDER). He noted that firefighters in the port couldn’t enter the Tuzla because the city and port were under missile fire. There was no Turkish personnel on board the ship. The Azerbaijani captain took refuge on another ship of the same company.
Hakan Çendik added that the ships stuck in the port of Kherson are planned to be taken out in the near future: "We expect the ships and their personnel to leave the area safely soon."
Reuters confirmed the information that a Turkish-owned ship was hit by a missile in the port of the southern Ukrainian city of Kherson, causing a fire.
"The missile hit the bridge of the vessel named Tuzla on Tuesday, maritime security company Ambrey said, causing the fire. Video footage showed flames filling the command room of the ship," Reuters writes.
The media outlet adds that the ship's location was confirmed by the ships and buildings seen in the video. They match files and satellite images of the area. However, Reuters couldn’t confirm the date of the video.
