Russian generals injured in Ukrainian strike on Russian Black Sea fleet HQ
Ukraine's attack on the headquarters of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in Sevastopol killed at least 9 people and wounded 16. Among them are Russian generals
Kyrylo Budanov, the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine, told the Voice of America about it.
"Among the wounded is the commander of the group, Col Gen [Alexander] Romanchuk, in a very serious condition. The chief of staff, Lt Gen [Oleg] Tsekov, is unconscious. The number of injured ordinary servicemen who are not staff members is still being established. These are soldiers on duty, security guards, and so on – they are not included in the list I have given you," said Kyrylo Budanov.
Budanov did not confirm reports about the alleged death of the commander of Russia’s Black Sea fleet, Adm Viktor Sokolov.
Asked what role partisans and locals played in planning the attack, Budanov said that intelligence collects data from all sources. "It is clear that agent sources are among the main ones," he added.
At the same time, the intelligence chief would not answer whether Western-made missiles were used in the attack on the Russian Black Sea Fleet headquarters.
"Here I have to refrain from answering, I think you should understand me," he said.
For reference. Alexander Romanchuk is the commander of the group of Russian forces in the Zaporizhzhia direction, promoted to the rank of colonel general in 2023. Lieutenant General Oleg Tsekov is the commander of the 200th Detached Guards Motor Rifle Brigade of the Coastal Forces of the Northern Fleet of the Russian Navy.
