Russian forces using Ukrainian mobile networks for GPRS navigation – Kharkiv official
Oleksandr Skoryk, a member of the Kharkiv Regional Council, says that Russian forces are constantly improving both their drone systems and the tactics they use to deploy them
He shared his opinions with Espreso TV.
"In recent times, the enemy has been continuously improving its drone systems. Now the UAVs fly at much higher altitudes, making them significantly harder to shoot down. Their electronic warfare systems have improved considerably. We can hear them approaching the target, rapidly accelerating from high altitude at very high speed, and delivering an extremely powerful strike, as the warhead of the Shahed has also been increased. In some drones, it reaches up to 60 kg, and in some cases — even more," Skoryk noted.
According to the member of the Kharkiv Regional Council, Russia has started equipping drones with shrapnel elements like metal balls or cut nails, which cause serious injuries. There’s also evidence that Russian GPRS systems are now using Ukrainian cellular networks for navigation instead of their own. In short, Russia’s drone tactics are getting more advanced every day.
"Moreover, they have adopted the tactic of striking a single target with a large number of drones. This almost guarantees results for the enemy, as air defense forces cannot respond adequately in time. When 10-12 drones are headed for one target, the enemy still achieves its goal — the destruction of infrastructure. Recent attacks have been very massive, powerful, and extremely destructive," Skoryk emphasized.
- Russia launched a new wave of nighttime drone and missile strikes across Ukraine on May 25, injuring at least two civilians and damaging homes.
- The invading Russian army has, for the first time since the start of the full-scale invasion, used an FPV drone armed with an RPG-based warhead to strike Kharkiv.
