Russian forces prepare for ‘elections’ in Melitopol: bring in Russians, do not let locals leave

Invading Russian forces bring "touring" Russians to the occupied Melitopol, Zaporizhzhia region, and do not let local residents leave the city. According to the mayor, this is how they are preparing for the so-called elections

This was reported by the mayor of Melitopol Ivan Fedorov.

"Last year's experience of the pseudo-referendum showed that local residents ignore the "democracy" offered by occupying Russian forces. Therefore, they have to attract ‘touring actors’ from the hinterland," the statement said.

It is noted that two weeks ago, Russian occupiers closed the fastest evacuation route through the Kolotylivka-Pokrovka checkpoint. Thus, they do not allow local residents to leave the occupied territories.

According to Fedorov, evacuation from Melitopol through Crimea has turned into a lottery. The occupiers let some people through the checkpoints, while others are turned back, including holders of Russian passports.

"Even for Russian occupiers, a Russian passport issued in the temporarily occupied territories is a wolf's ticket," the mayor wrote.
