Russian forces advance in Bakhmut direction, regroup in Kherson direction - AFU General Staff 

This was reported by the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces of Ukraine in the morning report on January 2.

The Russian forces conducted 51 airstrikes on Ukraine, including 44 Shahed kamikaze drones

Over the past day, January 1, the enemy conducted 51 air strikes, including 44 Shahed-136 UAVs. All of them were shot down by the units of the Ukrainian Defense Forces. Information about the night strike on January 2 in the capital will be announced later. 

Russia also fired 55 times from multiple rocket launchers. 

The threat of air and missile strikes on critical infrastructure facilities remains on the whole territory of Ukraine.

Ukrainian Armed Forces injured over 170 Russians and destroyed an ammunition depot in Zaporizhzhia

The General Staff confirms the fire damage on December 31 in the concentration areas of Russian forces’ manpower and equipment in the Zaporizhzhia region’s temporarily occupied territory. 

Thus, in the areas of Tarasivka, Basan, Polohy, Berdiansk and Tokmak, Russia's losses amounted to more than 175 injured Russian soldiers, 12 units of weapons and military equipment of various types and an ammunition depot of Russia were destroyed. 

Information about the killed Russian soldiers is clarified.

Ukrainian troops struck 18 Russian concentration areas on  January 1

Aviation of the Defense Forces struck 13 strikes on the Russian concentration areas. Missile and artillery units, in turn, struck 5 areas of Russian concentration of manpower and military equipment over the day.

Also, over the past day, the units of the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled the attacks of the occupants near two settlements of the Luhansk region and nine of the Donetsk region.

Russian troops regroup in the Kherson region

Russia continues to focus its efforts on the offensive in the Bakhmut direction. The Russian army is trying to improve the tactical situation of its troops in the Kupiansk, Lyman and Avdiivka directions. 

In the Vuhledar and Zaporizhzhia directions, Russian forces aew defending the previously occupied borders. 

And in the Kherson direction, they are regrouping troops, defending and shelling the positions of our troops and civilian objects along the contact line.

The situation in the directions

In the northern Ukrainian border with Russia and the border with Belarus, no signs of Russian offensive group formation were detected.

One settlement in the Chernihiv region, four in the Sumy region and three in the Kharkiv region were attacked by mortars and artillery.

In the Kupyansk direction, Russia fired at the areas of more than 15 settlements. Among them are eight settlements in the Kharkiv region and two in the Luhansk region.

In the Lyman direction, Russian fire was registered near four settlements in the Luhansk region and two in the Donetsk region.

Over 15 settlements were shelled in the Bakhmut region. In particular, there are nine in the Donetsk region. The Russian forces also conducted an air strike near Bilohorivka.

In the Avdiivka direction of the Donetsk region, four settlements came under fire.

In the Vuhledar direction of the Donetsk region, four settlements were hit by fire.

In the Zaporizhzhia direction, attacks from tanks, mortars and cannon artillery were registered near two settlements in the Donetsk region and seven in the Zaporizhzhia region.

In the Kherson direction, the civilian infrastructure of seven settlements was damaged by the Russian shelling.
