Russian drone falls in Romania, Bucharest does not see direct threats
Ukraine reported that during a major Russian attack near the Izmail port in the Odesa region, Shahed drones crashed and exploded in Romania. Bucharest responded to the incident
The spokesperson for Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Oleh Nikolenko, confirmed this information, citing Ukraine's State Border Service.
"This incident further underscores the significant threat posed by Russian missile attacks, not only to Ukraine's security but also to neighboring countries, including NATO member states," the statement said.
The agency called on its partners to provide Ukraine with advanced anti-missile and anti-aircraft defense systems and combat aircraft to enhance the protection of Ukraine's infrastructure and neighboring nations.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania condemned the attacks on Ukraine's civilian infrastructure, labeling them unjustified and violating international humanitarian rules. They also mentioned that they were closely monitoring the situation in real time.
"The drone attacks carried out by Russia did not directly threaten Romania’s national territory or territorial waters," noted the Ministry of Defense.
The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining heightened vigilance and enhancing defense measures on the eastern flank, in line with national and NATO plans.
- In total, 32 Shahed launches were recorded that night, with drones targeting the Odesa and Dnipropetrovsk regions. Seventeen Shahed drones were intercepted and destroyed in the southern part of Odesa, and six in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
