Russian disinformation: ‘Ukrainian fighters use maternity hospital as base, occupied nuclear plant working normally’

Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation has shared its latest disinfo review containing fake stories disseminated in Russian news outlets.

As stated in the message of the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, on August 4, Russia launched three disinfo campaigns.

Manipulation: Russian media reported that Gazprom would not accept a turbine for Nord Stream due to the sanctions regime of Canada, the EU and the UK. The company said that the current situation does not meet Siemens' contractual obligations.

Disinformation: The representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Igor Vyshnevetsky, stated that the actions of the Russian military do not cause any harm to the safety of the nuclear power plant in Ukraine, and the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant, which is "guarded" by Russian troops, is operating normally. Earlier, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, reported that the Zaporizhzhya NPP was completely out of control.

Fake story: The Russian Defense Ministry stated that "in Dobropillya, Donetsk region, units of the Ukraine's Armed Forces are concentrated in the premises of the maternity hospital, weapons and ammunition warehouses are equipped, and medical personnel and women with newborn children are not evacuated and are actually used as "human shields".
