Russian boat Suvorovets also failed to withstand drone attack and sank - expert on events in Novorossiysk
Defense Express military expert Ivan Kirichevskiy believes that the port in Novorossiysk is used by Russians as a base for logistics of the Russian army in the south of our country
He shared his opinion on the Espreso TV channel.
"In addition to the fact that we have a clear fact of damage to the Russian landing ship Olenegorsky Gornyak, there is another intrigue. Because one of the Russian authorities stated that a ship called Suvorovets also took part in repelling the attack of our kamikaze boats. The Suvorovets boat is an anti-sabotage boat. It is likely that this boat could not withstand contact with our kamikaze drone and went down," Kirichevskiy suggested.
According to him, social media footage also confirmed that an oil terminal was damaged in the port of Novorossiysk.
"This is an offshore base for transferring oil to tankers that call at the port of Novorossiysk," Kirichevskiy explained.
The military expert also added that the port in Novorossiysk is strategic for the Russians and performs three tasks at once.
"First, it is the largest port from which oil is exported. Secondly, it is the main base of the Russian Black Sea Fleet. It is in Novorossiysk that the Russians began to concentrate ships that carry Kalibr missiles. Thirdly, the Russians use Novorossiysk as a logistical transshipment base to provide logistics for the Russian army in southern Ukraine. When this attack was planned by our side, it was calculated to try to damage this Russian supply line, which can go to the south of our country," Kirichevskiy said.
Ukrainian Navy spokesperson Captain 3rd Rank Dmytro Pletenchuk noted that the Ukrainian Navy had nothing to do with the incident in Novorossiysk.
Explosions in Novorossiysk
On the morning of Friday, August 4, residents of the Russian city of Novorossiysk reported explosions. The Russian Defense Ministry said that Ukraine had allegedly attacked a naval base in the city with two naval drones.
The governor of the region said that there were no casualties or damage as a result of the attack. It was also noted that the infrastructure of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium was not damaged, oil shipments continued, but ship traffic in the port was temporarily suspended.
Later, information circulated on the Internet that the Olenegorsky Gornyak landing ship had been hit. In particular, one of the Russian propagandists reported the information. He claimed that one of the compartments was allegedly flooded, which caused the ship to tip over.
