Russian army loses 44 tanks, 60 armored vehicles and 1090 soldiers per day - General Staff

Over the past day, 64 combat engagements took place in the frontline. Ukrainian defenders beat back most of the Russian attacks, particularly in the Avdiivka, Bakhmut and Kupyansk sectors, and killed over a thousand Russian troops.

The total combat losses of the enemy from February 24, 2022 to December 18, 2023 are estimated to be:

  • personnel - about 347,160 (+1090) people,
  • tanks - 5,783 (+44),
  • armored combat vehicles - 10,752 (+60),
  • artillery systems - 8,175 (+38),
  • MLRS - 926 (+3),
  • air defense systems - 610 (+1),
  • airplanes - 324 (+0),
  • helicopters - 324 (+0),
  • UAVs of operational and tactical level - 6,290 (+12),
  • cruise missiles - 1,609 (+1),
  • ships/boats - 22 (+0),
  • submarines - 1 (+0),
  • motor vehicles and fuel tankers - 10,822 (+56),
  • special equipment - 1,198 (+4).
 

According to the General Staff, the Ukrainian Armed Forces fended off 5 Russian attacks in Bakhmut and 8 in Lyman directions

 In the area of the northern Ukrainian border with Belarus, the operational situation has not changed.

In the northeastern border area, the Russian army maintains a military presence, conducts active sabotage activities to prevent the deployment of Ukrainian troops to threatened areas, and increases the density of minefields along the state border in the Belgorod region.

In the Kupyansk direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 9 Russian attacks in the vicinity of Synkivka and east of Petropavlivka in the Kharkiv region.

In the Lyman direction, Ukrainian troops fought off 8 hostile attacks near Makiivka, Luhansk region, and east of Terny, Donetsk region.

In the Bakhmut direction, Ukrainian defenders repulsed 5 attacks in the areas of Bohdanivka, Klishchiivka and Andriivka in the Donetsk region. The defense forces continue to inflict losses in manpower and equipment on the enemy and are consolidating their positions.

In the Avdiivka direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to hold back the enemy, who keeps trying to encircle Avdiivka. Ukrainian soldiers are steadfastly holding the line, inflicting significant losses on the occupiers. Thus, 16 enemy attacks were repelled east of Novobakhmutivka, Stepove and Avdiivka, and another 11 - south of Tonenke, Nevelske and Pervomaiske in Donetsk region.

In the Marinka direction, the Defense Forces are deterring the Russian troops in the area of Novomykhailivka, Donetsk region. Ukrainian forces repelled four attacks.

In the Shakhtarsk direction, the Russian army did not conduct offensive (assault) actions.

In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the Defense Forces repelled 4 attacks west of Verbove and Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region.

In the Melitopol direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to inflict losses in manpower and equipment on the Russian forces, depleting the enemy along the entire front line.

In the Kherson direction, Ukrainian troops continue to hold their positions on the left bank of the Dnipro River, conducting counter-battery combat and inflicting fire on the enemy's rear.

In total, the Russian troops launched 2 missile strikes, 29 air strikes, fired 47 times from multiple launch rocket systems at the positions of our troops and populated areas. Unfortunately, Russian terrorist attacks have resulted in deaths and injuries among the civilian population. Private houses and other civilian infrastructure were destroyed and damaged.

At night, the Russian troops once again attacked Ukraine using 5 Shahed-136/131 UAVs. Ukrainian air defense forces destroyed all attack UAVs.

Air strikes hit: Petropavlivka in Kharkiv region; 6 settlements in Donetsk region; 2 settlements in Kherson region.

More than 100 settlements in Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson and Mykolaiv regions came under artillery fire.

Ukrainian Defense Forces hit Russian concentration areas 5 times

Over the past day, the aviation of the Defense Forces struck at the area of concentration of personnel, weapons and military equipment and 2 Russian anti-aircraft missile systems.

Rocket troops hit 4 areas of personnel, weapons and military equipment concentration, an artillery facility and a Russian ammunition depot.

On the night of December 18, Ukrainian air defense shot down all five drones launched by the Russian forces.
