Russian army launches 9 missile strikes, 3 airstrikes on Ukraine per day - General Staff

Despite their claims of a 'cease-fire', Russian forces launched 9 missile strikes, 3 airstrikes and 40 attacks with multiple launch rocket systems on January 7

The Ukrainian Armed Forces' General Staff reported this one the morning of January 8.

During the day of January 7, invading Russian forces launched 9 missile strikes, 3 airstrikes, as well as 40 attacks with multiple launch rocket systems. 

It is noted that civilian infrastructure was also affected: there are wounded and killed among the civilian population.

The General Staff reported that the occupying Russian forces are moving personnel, weapons, military equipment and munitions to the areas of hostilities. In this way, they seek to replenish losses and support their offensive.

Ukraine's Armed Forces repelled attacks near 16 settlements

The press service reported: “Over the past day, the Defense Forces' units have repelled Russian attacks on 16 settlements. Among them are Stelmakhivka, Makiivka and Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region, as well as Rozdolivka, Soledar, Bakhmut, Zalizne, Pervomaisk, Vodiane, and Pobjeda in the Donetsk region.”

At the same time, Ukrainian aviation struck 21 Russian military positions, as well as 3 strikes against the positions of their anti-aircraft missile systems. The defenders also shot down 3 Russian Orlan-10 reconnaissance UAVs. 

Soldiers of the missile troops and artillery targeted the command post, 5 concentration areas of manpower and military equipment, and 2 enemy munitions depots.

Invading Russian forces suffer losses

According to the General Staff, a train filled with the bodies of the occupiers in refrigerators arrived in the Russian Kemerovo region from Rostov-on-Don, and they are being taken to local morgues.

The Russians turn off Ukrainian TV channels in the temporarily occupied territories

“In the temporarily occupied territories, in the settlements of Hornostaivka, Kairy, Zavodivka and Marynske in the Kherson region, the occupiers have stopped broadcasting all Ukrainian TV channels, and only Russian TV is available,” the General Staff reported.

The situation in the main directions

The Russian forces are conducting offensive actions in the Bakhmut, Avdiivka and Lyman directions, suffering heavy losses.

The occupying forces are also trying to improve the tactical position in the Kupiansk direction.

The Russian enemy is on the defensive in the Vuhledar, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson directions.

As determined by experts, the situation on the border with Belarus has not changed significantly, and no signs of the formation of offensive groups have been detected.

In the northeastern Ukrainian border in the Kharkiv region, the districts of Starytsia and Dvorichna settlements came under fire. The enemy also used an attack UAV near Oleksandrivka.

In the Kupiansk and Lyman directions, the enemy shelled the Ivanivka, Stelmakhivka, Ploshanka, Makiivka, Nevskr, Chervonopopivka, and Dibrova districts of the Luhansk region with artillery.

In the Bakhmut direction of the Donetsk region, Berestove, Bilohorivka, Vesele, Krasna Hora, Bakhmut, Klishchiivka, Bila Hora, Diliivka, Zalizne, and New York came under enemy fire. 

In the Avdiivka direction of the Donetsk region, Nevelske, Marinka, and Novomykhailivka came under fire.

In the Vuhledar direction of the Donetsk region, Velyka Novosilka, Zolota Nyva, and Vuhledar came under fire.

In the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson directions, the enemy fired tanks, mortars, barrel and rocket artillery in Antonivka, Charivne, Dorozhnianka, Oleksiivka, Mali Shcherbaky, Stepove, and Kamianske districts of the Zaporizhzhia region.
