Russian-appointed Bucha district 'head' faces up to 12 years in prison

The Ukrainian National Police made an announcement on the official website.

According to the investigation, during the temporary occupation of settlements in the Kyiv region, the perpetrator cooperated with the enemy, namely: he handed over documentation from the village council to the military of the Russian Federation regarding the participants of the anti-terrorist operation and persons who took part in the operation of the joint forces, strategic infrastructure objects of the Bucha district; campaigned the local population to support and cooperate with the occupiers, giving them humanitarian aid from the Russian Federation.

In March 2022, at the behest of the occupying Russian forces, the man organized a meeting where he was appointed headman of several villages. He occupied the 'officer's chair' until the Ukrainian defenders liberated the Kyiv region from the Russian army.

In May, the police detained the so-called headman and, on the basis of the evidence received, informed him of suspicion under Part 6 of Art. 111-1 (collaborative activity) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. In addition, Department of Strategic Investigations operatives and investigators of the National Police conducted searches and seized humanitarian aid from the Russian forces, 'draft' records and other evidence relevant to the investigation.

For the crime committed, the accused faces up to 12 years of imprisonment with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a period of 10 to 15 years and with or without confiscation of property.
