Russia will demand Ukraine abandon Western weapons to end war, MFA says
Russia’s Foreign Ministry says Moscow will demand that Kyiv give up all Western-supplied weapons as a condition to end the war
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko said this, according to The Moscow Times.
According to him, the Western weapons supplied to Ukraine “pose a threat not only to Russia’s security but also to that of Western countries.”
“All these stockpiles must be destroyed. All the international mechanisms are well known. They [the weapons] must be reduced and disposed of, with guarantees,” he said.
Grushko also cited the example of Stinger air defense systems provided to the Afghan mujahideen, which eventually had to be “brought under control.”
“Even with that experience in mind, the recklessness of those political figures who continue to flood the market with weapons is astounding. They fully understand that black markets are swelling with arms that, due to corrupt schemes, flow into various parts of the world, including Europe,” the Russian deputy foreign minister added.
- On Monday, June 2, following a meeting in Istanbul, Russia published a memorandum regarding the end of the war. Among the main demands are the lifting of sanctions, non-nuclear status, and Ukraine's refusal to join NATO.
