Washington talks mark “significant step toward ending war”, Zelenskyy says

This was announced by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy on August 19 on Telegram.

"Yesterday, important talks took place in Washington with the President of the United States and European leaders. This was truly a significant step toward ending the war and ensuring the security of Ukraine and our people," he wrote.

He said work is currently underway on specific mechanisms for security guarantees.

Coordination at the leaders’ level continues today, with discussions and preparations for the relevant formats planned, and the work will carry on tomorrow. National security advisors remain in constant contact.

"There will be security guarantees," the president stressed and thanked all partners for their determination and support.

• On August 18, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived at the White House, where he was met by U.S. President Donald Trump. The leaders first held a bilateral meeting in the Oval Office and then met with European leaders and the NATO Secretary General. Afterwards, the talks continued in another format.
