Zelenskyy confident US pressure will eventually lead to ceasefire with Russia
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed confidence that pressure on Russia, primarily from the United States, will eventually force it to agree to a ceasefire
This was stated by the president during a meeting with business representatives from the Dnipropetrovsk region, according to the president's press service.
"Ukraine has demonstrated – and everyone emphasizes this – its readiness for a complete and unconditional ceasefire. We do not set any conditions, and the 'Russians' have no right to set any conditions," Zelenskyy said.
He emphasized that Ukraine does not support the proposal to lift sanctions from Russia in exchange for agreeing to a partial 30-day ceasefire. This position is also supported by European partners, who see how Russia is avoiding a ceasefire.
Zelenskyy added that the occupiers want to achieve certain territorial gains, as evidenced by their plans for offensive actions in the Sumy, Kharkiv, and Zaporizhzhia regions, which have not been realized.
"I believe that increased pressure and dialogue from the Americans will still lead to a ceasefire," Zelenskyy concluded.
- On March 25, another round of negotiations took place in Riyadh between Ukrainian and American delegations. The parties agreed on a partial 30-day ceasefire. Kyiv, Washington, and Moscow agreed to ensure safe navigation in the Black Sea. Russia was also supposed to stop shelling energy infrastructure. However, Russia has repeatedly violated the conditions of the 30-day partial ceasefire.
- On April 1, Russian forces struck an energy facility in Kherson, once again violating the agreements with the United States.
- On April 1, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov stated that Russia does not share U.S. President Donald Trump's approach to ending the war in Ukraine.
