Ukrainian forces seek to establish 'buffer zone' inside Russia from Sumy region
On the Sumy axis, the Defense Forces are making every effort to create a 'buffer zone' on Russian territory so that Russia cannot shell border settlements or penetrate into Ukrainian territory
Ivan Shevtsov, head of the press service of the 15th Mobile Border Guard Unit of the Steel Frontier Brigade, told Espreso.
"For the Russians, the 'buffer zone' means Ukrainian territory where the Ukrainian Defense Forces should not be positioned close enough to allow artillery strikes. However, so far the Russian aggressors have achieved nothing, and we are doing everything possible to create this 'buffer zone' on Russian territory, so the enemy cannot shell our border settlements or enter Ukrainian territory, especially in the Sumy direction," Shevtsov said.
According to the head of the press service of the 15th Mobile Border Guard Detachment of the Steel Frontier Brigade, we understand that the Russian troops will try to move further, because for them the 'buffer zone' is a way to penetrate deeper into Ukrainian territory and push the Ukrainian Defense Forces deeper into Ukraine.
"At the same time, in the combat zone, the soldiers pay little attention to Putin’s statements or political meetings. We understand that the Russian invaders must be defeated completely, and as long as the leadership in Russia doesn’t change, the fighting will continue. That’s why every day we work to destroy the enemy," Shevtsov emphasized.
- On May 22, Russian ruler Vladimir Putin stated that the Russian Armed Forces are working to create a 'buffer security zone' along the border with Ukraine. Kyiv urged to increase pressure on Moscow.
