War in Ukraine may shift from frontlines to ballot boxes
Will there be presidential elections in Ukraine, as reported by The Economist?
This is only "Plan A" in the case of a real ceasefire. That is, a likely option. One of the possibilities. Which, without a doubt, is being discussed in meetings with the Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Viktor Mykyta and Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Communities and Territories Development, Oleksiy Kuleba. It is also being debated in the headquarters of opposition parties.
The likelihood of elections increases with each passing month. Yes, these elections could "tear" the country apart. They will bear the shadow of Putin and Trump. The result may not satisfy the enthusiastic military and opinion leaders.
The war will simply shift into the electoral field. Elections will draw the entire Ukrainian population into the war at a new level. They will allow ordinary Ukrainians to feel the power of influence, as voters will have their chance to "fight" on the ballot front.
If Ukrainians passed the test of resilience during the kinetic war—the 2022 invasion—why do you think they won't withstand a non-kinetic war, namely the elections?
Nations survive when they dive into collective challenges and risks for themselves. This makes them stronger, as they go through the crucible of self-reflection, channel emotions, and see different alternatives.
The country will have to elect a president, parliament, and local government bodies. It must do so under the condition of martial law being lifted.
