Wang Yi's blunt message: Trump must talk to Xi to end Ukraine war
Wang Yi suggests that China, not just Russia, holds key to stopping the war. Trump needs to shift focus to Xi Jinping
China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi's blunt statement that Beijing cannot afford a Russian defeat in Ukraine, as China "fears that the United States will shift all its attention to Beijing," simply means that if Trump genuinely wants to stop the Russia-Ukraine war, he needs to speak not only with Putin but also with Xi Jinping.
He should engage primarily because China has the power to stop this war.
For this, Beijing needs to reduce military technology supplies to Russia and stop buying oil from Russia.
Of course, Trump must offer something in return to China. At a minimum, it should include halting the anti-China rhetoric that continuously emanates from the White House.
By the way, perhaps this is exactly what China was trying to communicate to the United States with its unusually candid statement from the Foreign Minister.
