Zelenskyy officially confirms Ukrainian presence in Russia’s Belgorod region for first time
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy received a briefing from Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi and officially confirmed the Ukrainian forces' presence in Russia’s Belgorod region
He said this in his evening address.
“Today, Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi reported separately on the frontline, our presence in Kursk and our presence in Belgorod region. We continue to conduct active operations in the border areas on the enemy's territory, and this is absolutely fair - the war must return to where it came from,” the President said.
According to him, the main goal of the Ukrainian forces in that area remains to protect communities in the Sumy and Kharkiv regions from the Russian troops as much as possible.
Syrskyi also reported to the president on the activity of the Ukrainian Armed Forces along the border, in the so-called gray zone and directly on Russian territory.
“It is important that thanks to the bravery and resilience of our soldiers in the Kursk region, thanks to the entire Kursk operation, we managed to reduce pressure on other frontline areas, in particular in the Donetsk region. It is absolutely important to continue to destroy Russian equipment and all the logistics used by the occupier along the front,” Zelenskyy added.
He also said that soldiers of the 225th Assault Regiment are fighting in the Belgorod region of the Russian Federation. They held the defense in the Kursk direction, near Bakhmut, in Chasiv Yar and in Avdiivka. The regiment consists mostly of volunteers who joined at the beginning of the Russian invasion.
- On March 27, Volodymyr Zelenskyy shared information about the intention of the Russian invaders to launch a new offensive in the Kharkiv and Sumy regions.
