Putin likely to drag out Ukraine ceasefire talks to seek his terms
Russia's Putin is likely to draw out negotiations over a ceasefire in Ukraine to secure more favorable conditions for Moscow, sources familiar with the situation say
Bloomberg reports that while Putin may eventually agree to a truce, he wants his own terms set first.
The Kremlin reportedly finds the U.S. - Ukraine deal reached in Jeddah unacceptable and might demand a halt to Western arms supplies to Ukraine as a condition for ending hostilities.
"The agreement between U.S. and Ukrainian officials presents a dilemma for Putin, who has so far escaped the same high-pressure campaign the White House has waged against Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy," the article says.
Russia has previously insisted on Ukrainian neutrality and military reductions. Meanwhile, U.S. officials are set to discuss the truce with their Russian counterparts, with a potential call between Trump and Putin on the table. A U.S . envoy is also expected to visit Moscow soon.
- After negotiations in Saudi Arabia between the Ukrainian and U.S. delegations, Kremlin dictator Vladimir Putin is now in a tough spot, while the situation looks politically favorable for Ukraine.
