Canada permits Ukraine to use supplied tanks, armored vehicles in Russia

The Canadian Ministry of National Defense announced that Ukraine has permission to use the provided armored vehicles in Russia. CBC News reported the information.

"Ukrainians know best how to defend their homeland, and we're committed to supporting their capacity," said Andrée-Anne Poulin, spokesperson for Canada's defense department.

She also added that Canada does not impose “any geographic restrictions” on the use of military equipment that the country has donated to the Ukrainian army.

The media outlet reports that it is not yet known whether Canadian weapons were used at the beginning of the operation in Russia's Kursk region.

According to CBC News, Canada has provided Ukraine with eight Leopard 2A4 tanks, several dozen armored combat support vehicles and hundreds of armored patrol vehicles, as well as several M-777 howitzers.

Ukraine reveals footage of first hours of Kursk operation

The Command of Ukraine’s Airborne Assault Forces showed unique footage of the first hours of the Ukrainian Defense Forces’ offensive in the Kursk region on August 6, 2024

The StratCom of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported the information.

“Mine clearance, border breakthrough, destruction of enemy defenses, aviation, artillery, and taking prisoners,” the statement said.

Later, Ukraine's 80th Separate Air Assault Halychyna Brigade showed another video in which Ukrainian forces captured over 50 Russian soldiers, destroyed a border checkpoint and broke through the Russian defense line.

“Faced with heavy fire from Ukrainian artillery and seeing Ukrainian tanks on the territory of the border checkpoint, the Russians made the right decision — to put up a white flag and surrender to Ukrainian soldiers, heading towards the Ukrainian border with their wounded,” the military wrote.

Ukrainian Magura drones strike 18 Russian vessels in 18 months

The Defense Intelligence of Ukraine reports that Ukrainian MAGURA V5 drones have struck 18 Russian vessels in a year and a half.

“The Russian Black Sea Fleet in Crimea has de facto surrendered. Russia has already withdrawn all the most modern and necessary equipment from Sevastopol. It has paralyzed this fleet. Now it eats money from the Russian budget, although it cannot perform its functions,” said the commander of the Ukrainian Defense Intelligence Group 13 special unit.

He added that Ukrainian intelligence officers attacked large Russian ships with a “flock” of drones, inflicting five or more hits at once, causing critical damage.

The Defense Intelligence of Ukraine noted that the Ukrainian-made MAGURA V5 maritime strike drone is capable of covering a distance of more than 800 kilometers. Its speed is 80 km/h and the weight of the warhead is 250 kg.

Explosions were heard in occupied Crimea on August 16

This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the Russian Ministry of Defense.

The Russian air defense allegedly repelled an attack by 12 ATACMS missiles that tried to attack the Crimean bridge.

Earlier, the so-called governor of Sevastopol Mikhail Razvozhayev reported the attack. According to him, the air defense forces and the Russian Black Sea Fleet were operating in the city.

According to the Sevastopol Rescue Service, no civilian objects in the city were damaged.

The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that air defense forces allegedly destroyed five aircraft-type UAVs over the Black Sea. In addition, two unmanned boats heading towards the Crimean peninsula were destroyed.

In addition, according to Astra TV channel, the work of the Crimean bridge was blocked in the occupied Crimea. It was closed from 2am to 7am.

Bundestag Defense Committee calls for more Leopard tanks for Ukraine

Marcus Faber, chairman of the German Parliament's Defense Committee, has called for more Leopard 2 tanks to be provided to Ukraine, as well as for the transfer of Fuchs armored vehicles.

He wrote about this on the social network X.

‘So far, we have handed over 5% of our Leopard 2s and 0% of our Fuchs. We can do more - especially as we have ordered 123 Leopard 2s and are about to make a decision on Fuchs. Our help is crucial in the fight against Putin's war of aggression,’ the politician said.

Faber added that Ukraine's success in the Kursk region ‘should be a reason to talk about supplying more Leopard 2s and Fuchs’.

‘By providing military support to Ukraine, we can now lay the foundations for a lasting peace in Europe,’ the German politician said.

As a reminder, on August 8, Faber said that the weapons that Kyiv receives from its partners become Ukrainian, including German Leopard 2 tanks. Therefore, Ukraine can use them at its own discretion, even in the Kursk region.

Ukraine approves Buffalo MPV armored vehicle for military use

Ukraine's Defense Ministry has approved the delivery of the Buffalo MPV armored engineering vehicle, known as one of the safest in the world, to its Armed Forces

This is a US Army engineering vehicle manufactured using MRAP (Mine Resistant Ambush Protected) technology. The Buffalo MPV is called one of the safest armored vehicles in the world.

Its windows are protected by 15-centimeter bulletproof glass, and the armor capsule is made of composite armor, additionally protected by bulletproof grilles. The vehicle is equipped with a 9-meter-long manipulator with a built-in camera and sensors for defusing explosives.

The ministry says that the Buffalo MPV is a deep modernization of the SASSPIR armored vehicle, which has been used during military operations in South Africa since the 1980s, in Iraq and Afghanistan. Currently, the SASSPIR is in service with the armies and security forces of more than 10 countries.

"It is noteworthy that no armored vehicle of this model that has been subjected to explosions and shelling has been killed during its operation in combat conditions," the statement says.
