U.S. General Dan Driscoll in Kyiv: what does it mean?
The visit of the U.S. Army Secretary, and a personal friend of J.D. Vance, to Kyiv is undoubtedly a very important event, especially amid the turbulence we are currently experiencing
1. This is the highest-level visit by U.S. military leadership to Kyiv during Trump's entire time in power. This visit was personally approved by Trump and is a significant victory for the Embassy of Ukraine in Washington and for Olha Stefanishyna personally.
2. What will this visit be about? It appears there are three objectives. The first is that Driscoll is to provide Trump with a report on the real situation at the front. The second is cooperation with the Ukrainian military-industrial complex, and particularly with drone manufacturers. And the third, which appears to be exclusively political, is to assess the internal political situation in light of the Mindich-gate.
3. Given that the Witkoff-Zelenskyy meeting did not happen, Driscoll's visit takes on a new light. It could, it seems, be one of the decisive factors for the White House's future negotiation decisions.
