Oleksandr Peleshenko, a two-time European weightlifting champion, has died in the conflict with Russia

This was confirmed by the Ukrainian Weightlifting Federation on Instagram.
"In a somber announcement, the Weightlifting Federation of Ukraine has shared the news that Oleksandr Peleshenko, a distinguished Ukrainian weightlifter and two-time European champion, has passed away," the post states.
30-year-old Oleksandr Peleshenko clinched the European Championship title in the up to 85 kg category in both 2016 and 2017. He finished in fourth place at the 2018 Olympics. Peleshenko faced disqualification twice for doping violations, first in 2013 and then again in 2018, resulting in a suspension from the sport until 2026.
