Ukrainian troops repel 29 Russian attacks in Avdiivka sector over last day - General Staff

The Ukrainian Armed Forces' General Staff reported this on February 16.

The operational situation in eastern and southern Ukraine remains difficult. A total of 70 combat engagements took place at the front over the last day. Russians launched 8 missile strikes, 49 airstrikes, and 84 attacks with multiple launch rocket systems at the Ukrainian troops' positions and populated areas.

Frontline situation

Near the state Ukrainian border with Russia and Belarus, the situation hasn't changed significantly, and no enemy offensive groups have been detected. Certain units of the Belarusian Armed Forces are performing tasks in the areas bordering Ukraine.

At the same time, the Russian army continued shelling the entire borderline with mortars and artillery: over 10 settlements across the Chernihiv, Sumy, and Kharkiv regions were attacked. 

In the Kupyansk direction, Russia did not conduct any offensive actions. However, about 10 localities came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Lyman direction, Ukrainian troops repelled eight Russian attacks near Terny, Yampolivka, Torske in the Donetsk region and Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region, where the Russian army tried to break through the Ukrainian defense. More than 10 settlements suffered from enemy artillery and mortar attacks.

In the Bakhmut direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 5 Russian attacks near Bohdanivka, Ivanivske, and Andriivka in the Donetsk region, where the Russian troops, with the support of aviation, tried to improve the tactical situation. Russia also launched airstrikes near Klishchiivka, Donetsk region. About 10 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Avdiivka direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 27 attacks near Avdiivka and 2 more attacks near Pervomaiske and Nevelske in the Donetsk region, where the Russian forces, supported by air power, continued to try to capture Avdiivka. Up to 20 localities came under enemy artillery and mortar fire.

In the Marinka direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces are holding back the Russian enemy near Heorhiivka and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region. Here, the invading troops, supported by aviation, tried to break through the Ukrainian army's defense 7 times. About 5 settlme came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Shakhtarsk direction, the Russian army did not conduct any offensive actions. About 10 localities came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Zaporizhzhia direction, no offensive (assault) actions by the Russian troops were registered. More than 20 localities came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Kherson direction, Russia does not abandon its intention to drive Ukrainian units from their footholds on the left bank of the Dnipro. Romashkove, Kherson, and Dniprovske in the Kherson region, as well as  Ochakiv in the Mykolaiv region, came under artillery and mortar fire.

Ukrainian strikes against Russian military positions 

Ukrainian aviation struck 11 of the invading Russian army's military positions.

The missile troops struck 3 manpower concentration areas, 2 artillery firing positions, a munitions depot, and 2 radar stations.
