Frontline update: Ukrainian troops repel 19 attacks in Bakhmut sector over last day

The Ukrainian Armed Forces’ General Staff reported this on April 17.

In total, Russia launched 4 missile strikes, 43 airstrikes, and 43 attacks with multiple launch rocket systems at the Ukrainian troops’ positions and populated areas.

In the morning of April 17, the Russian army launched missiles at the territory of Ukraine. There were explosions in the Odesa and Chernihiv regions, with deaths and injuries.

Frontline situation and attacks on Ukrainian territory

Near the state Ukrainian border with Russia and Belarus, the situation hasn't changed significantly, and no enemy offensive groups have been detected. Certain units of the Belarusian Armed Forces are performing tasks in the areas bordering Ukraine.

At the same time, the Russian army continued shelling the entire borderline with mortars and artillery: over 15 settlements across the Chernihiv, Sumy, and Kharkiv regions were attacked. 

In the Kupyansk sector, Russia attacked Ukrainian positions 4 times near Novoserhiivka, Kharkiv region. About 20 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Lyman sector, the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled three attacks near Nevske in the Luhansk region and Terny in the Donetsk region. Over 10 localities suffered from artillery and mortar attacks.

In the Bakhmut sector, Ukrainian soldiers repelled 19 attacks near the towns of Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region, Vyimka, Rozdolivka, Chasiv Yar, and Klishchiivka in the Donetsk region, where the Russian army, with the support of air power, tried to improve the tactical situation. More than 10 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Avdiivka sector, Ukrainian defenders repelled nine attacks near Semenivka, Novobakhmutivka, Ocheretyne, Novokalynove, and Pervomaiske in the Donetsk region, where the Russian army, supported by air power, tried to force Ukrainian units out of their positions. About 15 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Novopavlivka sector, the Ukrainian Defense Forces are holding back the Russian troops in the areas of Vodiane, Pobieda, and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region, where the Russians, with the support of aviation, tried to break through the Ukrainian defense 15 times. More than 10 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Orikhiv sector, Russia, with the support of aviation, attacked the Ukrainian defenders’ positions 3 times in the areas of Staromaiorsk, Donetsk region. About 20 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Kherson sector, Russia does not abandon its intention to force Ukrainian units out of their footholds on the left bank of the Dnipro River. About 20 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire.

Ukrainian strikes against Russian military positions 

Over the day, Ukrainian aviation struck 8 Russian manpower concentration areas.
