Ukrainian forces repel 83 Russian attacks, including 31 in Avdiivka sector - General Staff
On January 15, Russian troops unsuccessfully attacked the Ukrainian Defence Forces 83 times. Ukrainian defenders repelled most assaults in the Avdiivka and Lyman sectors

Russian attacks across Ukraine
There were 86 combat engagements over the last day. In total, Russia launched 1 missile strike, 31 airstrikes, and 51 attcaks with multiple launch rocket systems at the Ukrainian troops' positions and populated areas. Unfortunately, Russian terrorist attacks have resulted in civilian casualties. Private houses and other civilian infrastructure were destroyed and damaged.
During the day, Russians attacked about 119 settlements with various weapons.
Frontline situation
Near the state Ukrainian border with Russia and Belarus, the situation hasn't changed significantly, and no enemy offensive groups have been detected. Certain units of the Belarusian Armed Forces are performing tasks in the areas bordering Ukraine.
At the same time, the Russian army continued shelling the entire borderline with mortars and artillery: over 30 settlements across the Chernihiv, Sumy, and Kharkiv regions were attacked.
In the Kupyansk direction, the Ukrainian Armed Forces repelled two attacks near Synkivka, Kharkiv region, where the Russian troops were trying to improve their tactical position without success. About 10 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire.
In the Lyman direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 12 Russian attacks near Terny, Yampolivka, Torske in the Donetsk region and another 18 attacks in the areas of Serebrianske Forestry, Bilohorivka, and Hryhorivka. About 15 localities suffered from Russian artillery and mortar attacks.
In the Bakhmut direction, the Ukrainian Armed Forces repelled six enemy attacks in the areas of Ivanivske, Klishchiivka and Andriivka in the Donetsk region. More than 10 localities came under artillery and mortar fire.
In the Avdiivka direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 16 Russian attacks in the areas of Novobakhmutivka, Stepove, Avdiivka and another 15 attacks in the areas of Pervomaiske and Nevelske in the Donetsk region. More than 10 localities came under Russian artillery and mortar fire.
In the Marinka direction, the Ukrainian Defence Forces continue to hold back Russian army in the areas of Krasnohorivka, Heorhiivka, Pobieda, and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region. About 6 localities came under artillery and mortar fire.
In the Shakhtarsk direction, Russian army did not conduct any assault operations, however, over 10 settlements were subjected to Russian attacks.
In the Zaporizhzhia direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled five attacks near Robotyne. About 20 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire.
In the Kherson direction, 6 localities were subjected to artillery shelling.
Russia doesn't abandon its intention to drive Ukrainian units out of the footholds on the left bank of the Dnipro. Thus, during the day, the invading forces launched 8 unsuccessful assault operations. Ukrainian soldiers continue to hold their positions and inflict significant losses on the Russian troops.
Ukrainian military strikes against Russian troops
Over the day, Ukrainian aviation struck 21 Russian military positions, as well as 4 Russian anti-aircraft missile systems.
The missile troops struck 6 manpower concentration areas, 1 command post, 1 artillery unit, 2 air defense facilities, 1 munitions depot, and 1 radar station.
- Over the past day, January 14, there were 94 combat engagements at the front. The Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled Russian attacks in seven directions and eliminated almost 1,000 soldiers.
- On January 15, it became known that the Russians are trying to seize the initiative at the front, as the second anniversary of the full-scale invasion is approaching. They also hope to regain the lost territories.
- On January 15, Ukrainian Armed Forces spokesman Shtupun spoke about a new enemy task: the Russians are trying to enter Novomykhailivka in Donetsk region.
