Ukrainian forces need to be reinforced: military expert Zgurets on situation near Toretsk
Defense Express CEO and military expert Serhiy Zgurets says that Ukrainian forces hold a section between Niu York and Zalizne, but Russian troops are attempting to encircle the area
He shared his opinions with Espreso TV.
"The Toretsk direction is difficult due to several key factors. The Russian army is trying to attack from two directions - from Niu York and Toretsk, as well as from the direction of Pivnichne-Zalizne. These settlements are connected by rail. The enemy is trying to cross the railroad near Pivnichne. Further on, there are spoil heaps that Russia is trying to capture, as they are strategically important for the offensive on Toretsk," explained Zgurets.
According to the military expert, the capture of the waste heaps near Zalizne will allow the Russian army to intensify its offensive against Toretsk. The distance to the administrative borders of Toretsk is already insignificant, just a few hundred meters. Russian subversive reconnaissance groups have already entered Toretsk.
"There is a section of territory between Niu York and Zalizne that is held by the Ukrainian military, but the Russian army is trying to cover this area from both sides, creating a threat of encirclement. I hope that Ukrainian brigades operating in this area will receive reinforcements. Our command is aware of the complexity of this area," noted Zgurets.
The military expert added that information pressure and the real situation will lead to decisions that will make it more difficult for Russian forces to advance toward Toretsk.
"But Ukrainian soldiers say the situation is difficult. Russia has an advantage in manpower, equipment, artillery and aviation, which is a common situation in many parts of the frontline where the Ukrainian Armed Forces are holding the line," Zgurets summarized.
