Ukrainian forces capture 22-year-old Indian national fighting for Russia

A foreigner was studying in Russia but got caught with drugs. To avoid going to prison, he went to the war. But during the first assault, he surrendered to the soldiers of Ukraine's 63rd Brigade

The 63rd Separate Mechanized Brigade reported the information on Facebook.

Soldiers of the 63rd Brigade captured a 22-year-old Indian man.

"Majoti voluntarily told his story. He was studying in Russia but got caught with drugs. To avoid prison, he went to war. He swears he did not intend to fight and planned to escape immediately, so during the very first assault, he surrendered to the soldiers of the 63rd Brigade," the statement says.

As the brigade noted, Russia continues to actively recruit foreigners into its army and is only expanding its geographical reach.

Ukraine's 63rd Separate Mechanized Brigade

The 63rd Separate Mechanized Brigade is a formation of the mechanized troops of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

It was created after the start of the Russian-Ukrainian war in 2014 as a cadre military unit of the Reserve Corps. After the Russian invasion in 2022, it was mobilized. In the fall of 2022, it fought in the Kherson direction, and in the winter, near Bakhmut. In the spring of 2023, it fought near Kreminna. The brigade's place of deployment is the Khmelnytskyi region.

On December 6, 2023, the President of Ukraine presented the brigade with the Battle Flag. On December 11, 2024, the 63rd Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was awarded the honorary distinction For Courage and Bravery by a decree of the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Soldiers of the 63rd Brigade showed how they destroy enemy loitering drones and other explosives.

Foreign fighters captured by Ukraine

Earlier in September, Soldiers with the 57th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade named after Kost Hordiienko captured a Kenyan citizen named Evans in the Vovchansk sector.

In August, media reported that besides Russians, there are more than 100 citizens from 32 countries in Ukrainian captivity. Most of the foreign prisoners come from Central Asia.

In April, Ukrainian forces also captured two Chinese citizens who had been serving in the Russian army.
