Ukrainian diplomats recruit mercenaries in Côte d'Ivoire - new Russian propaganda fake
Russia seeks to discredit Ukraine as it expands its network of diplomatic missions in Africa
This was reported by the Centre for Countering Disinformation.
While monitoring the African segment of the Internet, the Centre identified a fake that is being spread via WhatsApp and Facebook. It allegedly claims that the Embassy of Ukraine in Côte d'Ivoire is recruiting mercenaries to participate in the war against Russia.
"This information is untrue, and the document that is being circulated as 'evidence' has signs of forgery. The Ukrainian embassy in Côte d'Ivoire does not have a diplomat named Denys Chernyshenko, who is listed in the fake document as a contact person. The address and phone number of the diplomatic mission are also incorrect," the Centre explained.
This is part of Russia's campaign to discredit Ukraine on the eve of the Peace Summit to be held in Switzerland on June 15-16.
- On June 9, it was reported that Russian propagandists were spreading a fake claiming that sooner or later the defences of the Ukrainian Armed Forces would "break down" and the Ukrainian government risked losing control of a number of large cities, including Kyiv.
