Ukrainian army repels 33 Russian attacks, destroys 2 munitions depots per day - General Staff

Russian attacks across Ukraine

"In total, Russia launched 55 missile strikes, 16 airstrikes, 16 attacks with multiple launch rocket systems at the Ukrainian troops’ positions and populated areas. Unfortunately, as a result of Russian terrorist attacks, there are dead and wounded among the civilian population," the General Staff said.

On the night of January 8, the Russian troops launched a massive attack on Ukraine, using cruise, air, ballistic, anti-aircraft guided missiles and strike UAVs. A total of 59 air attack weapons were recorded: 8 strike UAVs, 7 S-300/S-400 anti-aircraft guided missiles, 4 Kh-47M2 Kinzhal aerial ballistic missiles, 24 Kh-101/X-555/X-55 cruise missiles, 8 Kh-22 cruise missiles, and 2 Kh-31P guided air missiles.

Air defense destroyed 8 Shahed-136/131 attack UAVs and 18 Kh-101/Kh-555/Kh-55 cruise missiles.

Frontline situation 

Near the state Ukrainian border with Russia and Belarus, the situation hasn't changed significantly, and no enemy offensive groups have been detected. Certain units of the Belarusian Armed Forces are performing tasks in the areas bordering Ukraine.

At the same time, the Russian army continued shelling the entire borderline with mortars and artillery: over 30 settlements across the Chernihiv, Sumy, and Kharkiv regions were attacked. 

In the Kupyansk direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled five Russian attacks near Synkivka, Kharkiv region, where the Russian army unsuccessfully tried to improve the tactical situation. About 10 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Lyman direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled a Russian attack east of Terny in the Donetsk region. More than 10 localities suffered from enemy artillery and mortar shelling.

In the Bakhmut direction, the Ukrainian Armed Forces repelled two enemy attacks near Klishchiivka and Andriivka in the Donetsk region. More than 10 localities came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Avdiivka direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled three enemy attacks in the areas of Avdiivka, Sevierne, Tonenke and another 14 attacks near Pervomaiske and Nevelske in the Donetsk region. About 15 localities came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Marinka direction, the Defense Forces continued to hold back the Russian army near Novomykhailivka, Donetsk region, where it unsuccessfully tried to break through the Ukrainian defense 7 times. About 6 localities came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Shakhtarsk sector, Russia did not conduct any offensive (assault) actions. However, more than 10 localities were shelled with artillery and mortars.

In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 6 enemy attacks south of Chervone, west of Verbove and north of Novoprokopivka. More than 15 localities came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Kherson direction, 6 localities were subjected to Russian artillery fire.

The Russian army doesn’t abandon its intention to drive Ukrainian units from their footholds on the left bank of the Dnipro River. Thus, during the day, it launched 9 unsuccessful assault operations, but Ukrainian soldiers continue to hold their positions and inflict significant losses on the enemy.

• On January 7, 35 combat engagements took place at the front. The Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled enemy attacks in six areas and killed 440 Russian soldiers.
