Ukrainian forces deny Russia seizing Novooleksandrivka in Pokrovsk direction
On June 23, the Ukrainian non-governmental OSINT project DeepState reported that the Russian army had completely occupied the village of Novooleksandrivka, Donetsk region, and is advancing along the Pokrovsk-Kostiantynivka highway. However, the military denied the information
On the evening of June 23, DeepState reported the village's occupation.
"The enemy has occupied Novooleksandrivka. As of today, the Russians are trying to gain a foothold on the western outskirts of the village. The Ukrainian Defense Forces are conducting manpower strikes to stop further advancement," DeepState noted.
If the project's conclusion about Novooleksandrivka, based on open photo and video sources, is accurate, then "only Vozdvyzhenka remains on the Pokrovsk-Kostiantynivka highway."
"It is important to stop the Russian advance, as the situation near Ocheretyne is somewhat similar. As then, the forces of the 47th, 68th, 25th brigades and seconded units are holding back the main attack, exhausting their potential, and the flank is cracking," DeepState concluded.
Ukraine's General Staff, on the other hand, reported fighting in the village.
"There have been 12 combat engagements in the Pokrovsk sector, particularly in the areas of Oleksandropil, Novooleksandrivka, Yevhenivka, Vozdvyzhenka, and Sokil. In total, Russia has attempted to improve the tactical situation in the sector 36 times. Ukrainian defenders are giving a decisive rebuff to the invaders. The Russian troops supported their actions with two air strikes: today, bombs fell near Novooleksandrivka, and the invaders used unmanned aerial vehicles near Oleksandropil," reads the General Staff's update as of 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 23.
Ukrainian military's reponse
On the morning of June 24, Ukraine's 110th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after Lieutenant General Marko Bezruchko refuted the claim of Russian troops fully occupying Novooleksandrivka in the Pokrovsk direction as untrue.
The military acknowledge that a substantial portion of Novooleksandrivka is under Russian troop occupation, but they do not control the entire settlement. Heavy fighting is currently underway on the streets of Novooleksandrivka.
"The numerically superior enemy is furiously attacking, but the fighters of the 110th Brigade together with neighboring units are holding back their fierce onslaught with extraordinary efforts," the brigade said in a statement.
According to them, the part of the settlement that Russian forces breached is under the Ukrainian Armed Forces' fire control. Ukrainian defenders are taking necessary measures to expel them from the village.
The 110th Brigade assured that the situation is currently under control of Ukrainian Armed Forces units.
