Ukrainian army repels 25 Russian attacks in Bakhmut sector over last day

The Ukrainian Armed Forces’ General Staff reported this on April 20.

Russian attacks across Ukraine

Over the past day, Russia launched 14 missile strkes, 48 airstrikes, and 61 attacks with multiple launch rocket systems at the Ukrainian troops' positions and settlements.

Frontline situation 

Near the state Ukrainian border with Russia and Belarus, the situation hasn't changed significantly, and no enemy offensive groups have been detected. 

At the same time, the Russian army continued shelling the entire borderline with mortars and artillery: over 20 settlements across the Chernihiv, Sumy, and Kharkiv regions were attacked. 

In the Kupyansk sector, Russia did not conduct any offensive (assault) actions. About 15 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Lyman sector, the Ukrainian Defence Forces repelled nine attacks near Terny, Donetsk region, where Russia tried to break through the Ukrainian defence. Artillery and mortar shelling affected more than 10 localities.

In the Bakhmut sector, Ukrainian troops repelled 25 attacks in the areas of Bilohorivka, Luhansk region; Verkhnekamianske, Spirne, Klishchiivka, Ivanivske, and Novyi, Donetsk region, where the Russian army was trying to its tactical position. More than 10 localities came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Avdiivka sector, Ukrainian defenders repelled 18 attacks in the areas of Semenivka, Novokalynove, Ocheretyne, Berdychi, Umanske, and Yasnobrodivka in the  Donetsk region, where Russians, supported by air power, tried to force Ukrainian troops out of their positions. About 15 localities came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Novopavlivka sector, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are holding back the Russian troops in the areas of Heorhiivka, Novomykhailivka, Vodiane, and Urozhaine in the  Donetsk region, where the Russian army, supported by aviation, tried to break through the Ukrainian defence 17 times. More than 10 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Orikhiv sector, Russia attacked the positions of Ukrainian defenders near Staromaiorske, Donetsk region, with the support of aviation. About 20 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Kherson sector, Russia does not abandon its intention to push out Ukrainian troops from the footholds on the left bank of the Dnipro River.  About 20 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire.

Ukrainian strikes against Russian military positions 

Over the day, Ukrainian aviation struck 8 Russian manpower concentration areas.

Missile troops struck 1 manpower concentration area, 1 ammunition depot, 1 air defence facility, and 1 military positions.

• Over the last day, 102 combat engagements took place athe front. Ukrainian troops repelled most of the Russian attacks in the Avdiivka sector.
