Ukraine's path to victory is destroying Russia's oil, gas infrastructure — Gen. Hodges
Ukraine's path to victory is cutting off Russia's economic lifeline. The key is destroying oil and gas infrastructure and crippling energy exports, which starves Russia of the resources it needs to keep fighting
American military commander General Ben Hodges expressed this opinion in an interview with Antin Borkovskyi, host of the Studio West program.
"I think Ukraine's theory of victory lies in destroying Russian oil and gas infrastructure and its ability to export oil and gas. That's how Ukraine defeats Russia. Because Russia won't be able to pay for the war if it can no longer export oil and gas to China, India, Turkey, and other clients. And of course, this will damage Russia's own internal capabilities when they don't have enough fuel for their army," Hodges noted.
The general believes and hopes that Ukrainians should continue attacking Russian gas and oil infrastructure, as well as Russian tankers.
"This is an important part of defeating Russia. And what's interesting is that most of this is being done with Ukrainian technology, Ukrainian weapons that they developed themselves, and Ukrainian intelligence. So, in my view, this is the right path," Hodges added.
Diplomat Volodymyr Yelchenko noted that currently there is little information about the consequences of sanctions against Russian gas and oil extraction companies, however the price of Russian oil has already dropped below $40 per barrel.
