Ukraine’s military goals of Kursk operation successfully achieved - military expert
Defense Express analyst Serhiy Zgurets believes that the military objectives set at the beginning of the Kursk operation by the Ukrainian Armed Forces have been achieved. In particular, Russia suffered significant losses, and the Ukrainian army was able to hold back a large Russian military grouping
He shared his opinions with Espreso TV.
"If we analyze DeepState maps, we can conclude that the control zone of the Kursk bridgehead for the Ukrainian Armed Forces has significantly decreased. The Ukrainian forces have withdrawn from the north and northwest. From the east, the Russians are trying to advance towards Sudzha. Videos have already appeared online showing Ukrainian troops moving from the northern outskirts of Sudzha. We also know that the Russian efforts on the eastern and western flanks to disrupt the logistics of the Ukrainian forces in this area continue. There is a possibility that some of the Ukrainian forces have moved from the northern part of this bridgehead," said Zgurets.
According to the analyst, Russia’s advancement into Ukraine's Sumy region remains unlikely, particularly because of the strong fortifications in the area, which will make logistics for Russian forces difficult.
"It's hard for me to say whether the Ukrainian Armed Forces have begun withdrawing from the Kursk region. However, I can confidently state that the military objectives of the Kursk operation have been excellently achieved. Specifically, this operation allowed Ukraine to pin down significant Russian forces, and the Russians suffered substantial losses in this section of the front. Whether the Ukrainian Armed Forces withdraw from the Kursk region or remain on a small portion of it, the advance of Russian troops towards Sumy remains highly unlikely. There are several reasons for this. During this time, strong and significant fortification lines were built in the Sumy region. Additionally, the natural landscape does not encourage such an advance, as it will greatly complicate Russia’s progress. Most likely, Ukrainian forces and Russian occupiers will regroup. Specifically, some of the Ukrainian troops will be redeployed to other sections of the front," he concluded.
- The OSINT project DeepState reported that the Russian army made slight advances on the Kursk front, particularly near Mirny and Zozulevka. Additionally, Russian forces are reinforcing positions in the eastern part of Sudzha.
- On March 12, Forbes reported that Ukrainian troops were likely to leave the Kursk region amid the Russian offensive. In particular, this concerns the most combat-ready part of the brigades.
