Ukraine's Air Force outlines only way to counter Russian guided bombs

Illia Yievlash, spokesman for the Ukrainian Air Force, says that the only way to effectively combat Russian glide bombs is to destroy their carriers

He said this on Espreso TV.

"If we are talking about FAB-1500, which was used by the Russians to attack Kharkiv, then we are probably talking about a modified guided bomb. The invaders use 250 kg and 500 kg bombs. The FAB-1500 weighs 1.5 tons. That is, it is almost the same as dropping a car. Such targets are very difficult to shoot down. The heavier the bomb, the shorter its flight distance. However, it is also difficult to launch such a bomb and its accuracy is very low," explained Yievlash.

The spokesperson emphasized that the Air Force is doing everything possible to keep Russian aircraft out of Ukraine's airspace.

"The most effective way to combat guided bombs is to destroy the carriers. Because the Russians have a lot of high-explosive aircraft bombs, which they also convert into guided bombs. We have to understand that in the face of scarce air defense, the most effective way is to destroy enemy Su-34 and Su-35, which are the carriers. It is these aircraft that cover the ones that drop these bombs. We cannot allow a situation like we had at the beginning of the invasion. When their planes felt quite free in the air," he added.
