Ukraine reaping consequences of Zelenskyy's 'major mistake' in Oval Office — lawmaker

Ukrainian lawmaker Oleh Syniutka stated this on Espreso TV.

"I am convinced that Trump is not a lobbyist for Putin. Trump believes that what is permissible for him and the U.S. is absolutely not permissible for anyone else, and first and foremost - for Russia. But Trump has set himself the task of pulling Russia, with its enormous natural resources, away from China, the main geopolitical adversary of the United States. And currently, Trump is building around himself an alliance of states that will oppose China as the main geopolitical competitor," Syniutka noted.

According to the MP, the window of opportunity for Ukraine is now closing.

"Because today we are reaping the results of a major mistake by Zelenskyy and the authorities, made in the Oval Office in February 2025. Remember those 'fireworks' that Zelenskyy displayed in the Oval Office? Remember the stormy reaction of Ukrainians? 'How could they insult our president like that?' But in reality, that was a chance for Ukraine, because it wasn't Ukraine's proposal - it was a U.S. proposal to stop and conclude a ceasefire on the line of contact. And Trump would have considered this proposal his victory. Unfortunately, at that time, the Ukrainian authorities did not understand that this was a chance for Ukraine. Today we do not have a proposal to cease fire along the entire line of contact, and it is difficult for us to claim to resolve issues precisely in such a format. Therefore, it is very important not to act on emotions, but to act professionally," Syniutka emphasized.
