Ukraine needs up to 12 more Patriot systems to cover sky - Zelenskyy
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that an additional 10-12 Patriot air defense systems are needed to close the skies over Ukraine from Russian attack drones and missiles
He said this at a meeting with the chairman of the Group of Socialists and Democrats of the European Parliament, Iratxe Garcia Perez, Ukrinform reports.
Zelenskyy stressed that up to 12 Patriot systems will ‘ensure life’.
‘The main security guarantees for us, if we are talking not about strategy but about tactics, about what will save the lives of Ukrainians, are, of course, air defense systems... Everyone understands that 10-12 additional Patriot systems for Ukraine will save lives and make the war meaningless for Putin,’ the president said.
According to Zelenskyy, “if the sky is protected, no guided bombs or ballistic missiles will hit Ukraine's civilian infrastructure - hospitals, schools, universities.”
“Sometimes I really don't understand: one and a half billion for one system. Please take this money from Russian assets. It will cost 30 billion, but it will be able to completely, finally close our sky. And that's it. People will return to normal life, including people from abroad. Children will go to schools, universities everywhere, the economy will work,” the president said, adding that this is ‘what we lack today, what our partners have specifically.’
- On November 28, Dutch Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans said that his country had handed over three Patriot air defense missile launchers to Ukraine.
