Ukraine must amplify Europe’s voice to U.S. — political analyst
It is necessary to form a public position of the countries of the collective West regarding the negotiations between Russia and the United States – to go to the UN platform and possibly adopt a corresponding resolution
This was stated on Espreso by political analyst Oleksii Buryachenko.
“We need to synchronize our position with the Europeans. Because Europeans, in general, are not being heard in Washington. Marco Rubio said this, Vance basically said this, and from Trump’s words, it’s also clear,” he said.
According to Buryachenko, Ukraine should act as an amplifier of the European position, since it is a country that, one way or another, simply has to be heard.
“That’s why our positions should be mutually aligned and sound as loud as possible for Washington. The agenda of the Alaska summit is literally being written on the go. And, as they say, it is certainly not set in stone yet, and it is possible to make a whole range of serious amendments and adjustments,” the political analyst said.
He emphasized that the Russians will try to blur the issue of the Russian-Ukrainian war, essentially making it a secondary topic at this summit while focusing on resetting relations between the US and Russia.
“It will be very difficult to truly shape a position that would bring the issue of the Russian-Ukrainian war and its resolution to the forefront. Therefore, considering the above, I would now strongly advise forming a public position of the collective West, to go to the United Nations platform, possibly adopt a corresponding resolution, discuss everything at the UN Security Council. Perhaps organize a quick meeting in Brussels with the participation of Americans, with Vance again present, where everything could be documented as much as possible,” Buryachenko summed up.
Donald Trump is scheduled to meet Vladimir Putin in Alaska
Trump earlier announced that he would meet with Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Alaska on August 15.
Touching on what he would discuss with Putin regarding the conditions for ending Russia’s war against Ukraine, Trump previously mentioned the topic of “some land swap.”
Diplomatic consultations between Ukraine and the United States ahead of the summit are taking place virtually around the clock. Meanwhile, NYT reports that the U.S. Secret Service has booked a six-room house in Anchorage, where the meeting between Trump and Putin is likely to take place.
Republican Senator Lindsey Graham stated that Ukraine and Russia would have to exchange some territories after Kyiv receives security guarantees.
On August 11, it was reported that European leaders and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy would hold a phone call with Donald Trump before his meeting with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
On August 11, Trump made several statements regarding the war in Ukraine and his meeting with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin. Trump said he wants to discuss the possible terms of a peace agreement with Putin. However, he stressed that he would not conclude the agreement himself.
